WARDOGS Early Access Explained: Release Date and Roadmap

WARDOGS launched into Steam Early Access on September 10, 2026, for Windows PC only. The Standard Edition costs $39.99 and the Supporter Edition costs $49.99.

It’s a paid, playable build of an unfinished game. BULKHEAD expects Early Access to run one to two years.

This page covers what launched, what’s changed since, what’s still planned, and what BULKHEAD has said not to expect.

Table of Contents

WARDOGS Release Date and Launch Details

WARDOGS entered Steam Early Access on September 10, 2026.

It launched on Windows PC through Steam only, at $39.99 for the Standard Edition or $49.99 for the Supporter Edition.

There is no free-to-play version and no console release at launch. Console versions are confirmed but not yet available (see Platform Status).

What Early Access Means for WARDOGS

BULKHEAD’s Steam page calls the Early Access build “fully playable and represents the core vision of the game.”

It is not a demo. It is also not the finished game.

The studio plans to spend roughly one to two years expanding content, refining balance, and building out progression before a 1.0 release. Steam is explicit that the exact duration may change with feedback.

What Early Access Means for WARDOGS

What’s Playable Now

The launch build centers on:

  • 100-player matches split across three teams fighting over a Control Zone
  • Large maps with dynamic objective zones
  • A persistent cash and XP economy
  • Vehicles, logistics, and support roles
  • Destructible environments and player-built fortifications
  • Proximity voice chat

BULKHEAD’s August developer video framed the launch content target as 37 weapons, 21 vehicles, and 3 maps with 3 variations each.

The actual live catalogue currently sits at 34 weapons with full stats tracked (damage, fire rate, DPS, weight, and unlock level), against that reported 37-weapon target. Treat both figures as build-sensitive: names, availability, and balance shift with patches.

What’s Confirmed as Planned

BULKHEAD’s Steam page names these directions for Early Access:

  • Fighter jets as a new vehicle type
  • Expanded weapon categories and additional objective variations
  • Deeper progression and a stronger seasonal metagame
  • More maps, weapons, and vehicles

The Black Market, Vault, Player Skills, and Challenges have also reportedly been named in BULKHEAD’s roadmap video, with no dates or details attached yet.

None of these carry a release date. BULKHEAD has also said the full metagame would not be complete on day one.

On maps, the sources split. Steam’s page lists “more maps” among the planned additions. As relayed by community trackers citing Bulkhead’s August devlog, only one new map is planned for the whole Early Access period, with effort going to stability, balance, and bug fixes instead.

Read “more maps” as the direction and “one new map” as the concrete commitment.

What BULKHEAD Says Not to Expect

WARDOGS is not a live-service game with monthly content drops.

The studio has told players not to expect regular content drops during Early Access, and it listed that among its own reasons someone might want to wait before buying.

Its stated priorities are balance, performance, and stability.

Should You Buy Now or Wait?

Buy now if the current build already appeals: large-scale three-team PvP, a persistent economy, vehicles, construction, and destruction. You need to be comfortable with balance changes, occasional server issues, and a roadmap with no fixed dates.

Wait if your purchase depends on a finished metagame, fixed weapon balance, console play, or a specific roadmap item like fighter jets or the Black Market.

Judge WARDOGS on what’s live today, not on what’s planned.

Launch and Reception

Launch day did not go smoothly. Demand overwhelmed BULKHEAD’s servers, and players hit login queues and disconnects on September 10. BULKHEAD shipped a same-day hotfix (200+ MB) that required a restart and redownload, then let players back in through controlled batches as stability was confirmed.

By September 15, 2026, BULKHEAD announced 2 million copies sold, alongside a concurrent player peak above 400,000, via the official WARDOGS X account.

As of September 27, 2026, Steam listed WARDOGS at Very Positive, with roughly 82% of its 53,875 user reviews positive, per the live Steam store page.

What Season 1 Changed

Season 1’s changelog rebalanced progression rather than adding content. Key changes: the Forward Operating Base kit rose from $2,500 to $7,500, the Heavy Tank moved from a Career-level unlock to Driver level 35, and the Artillery Tank moved to Career level 90 with its price raised from $400,000 to $500,000. The XP curve was slowed across levels 10-20, flattening further from level 35 onward.

Patch 0.11 (September 14) followed with a server-browser overhaul, splitting Community and Official server lists and fixing several cash exploits and GPU crashes.

Season 2 on October 15

BULKHEAD’s official “Season 02 Teaser” post, published September 22, 2026, confirms Season 2 arrives October 15, 2026. The teaser gives the date only; detailed patch notes haven’t been published yet.

BULKHEAD has separately said seasonal resets will reset cash, levels, and XP, with leftover cash converting into Gold Bars, a currency confirmed to be cosmetic-only. Whether the October 15 launch itself is the wipe point hasn’t been confirmed as of this writing.

Price & Editions

WARDOGS costs $39.99 for the Standard Edition or $49.99 for the Supporter Edition, and BULKHEAD has confirmed the Early Access price sits below what the game will cost at 1.0.

Full edition breakdown is covered above, and the Standard and Supporter Edition prices are confirmed directly on the official Steam store page.

Platform Status

WARDOGS launched PC-only, through Steam.

On launch day, BULKHEAD confirmed PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S versions, targeting 2028. No exact date, console price, or launch order between the two platforms has been announced.

No exact console launch date, price, or platform order has been announced beyond what’s outlined above.

How We Got Here

WARDOGS ran through three test windows before launch: an invite-only Closed Alpha (August 7-9), a Closed Beta 1 (August 21-23), and a Closed Beta 2 (September 3-6, opened to everyone on September 5).

All testing ended before Early Access opened, so no prior access is needed to play.
